Dear JewishGenners:

The December 2, 2022 edition of the Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza carried a legal notice from the Regional Court for Central Łódź [Sąd Rejonowy dla Łodzi-Śródmieścia], Eighteenth Civil Division, on behalf of the State Treasury as represented by the Mayor of Łódź, announcing that they are preparing to declare the following individuals deceased.  This is presumably a first step towards the city taking possession of their property.  The Court is required by law to seek out any living heirs of the owners and this notice is their compliance with that requirement.  The fact that, in Jewish cases, it is highly unlikely that any heirs are reading the Polish daily press is irrelevant to the process.  Those sought are:

  1. Mindla (née SZEFNER) ORBACH, daughter of Aron & Frymeta (née MILICH), born in Łódź on January 2/14, 1889;

  1. Chemia (Henryk) ORBACH, son of Moszek & Estera Rojza (née MILICH), born in Łódź on July 12/24, 1883;

  1. Hanna (Halina) ORBACH, daughter of Chemia & Mindla (née SZEFNER), born in Łódź on January 7/20, 1909; and

  1. Janina ORBACH, daughter of Chemia & Mindla (née SZEFNER), born in Łódź on June 4/17, 1911.

The last known residence of all the above is Łódź.

Any heirs or those with knowledge of the fate of these individuals is asked to contact the Court directly within three months of the publication of the notice.  In contacting the Court, please make reference to Docket No. XVIII Ns 680/22.

Best wishes,
