Robert, it might interest you to know German subs operated in the Indian ocean and off the east coast and west coast of Australia where merchant ships were easy pickings. They were supplied out of the Japanese bases in Penang and Djakarta. The Dutch submarine fleet was based in Fremantle, just south or Perth.

Slightly off topic, but German subs operated in the Western hemisphere too.

The date was taken from the back of the photos. It may not have been filmed in Israel. All other things remain as they are.

There was no safe travel during WWII from the U.S. to the Middle
East, or pretty much to anywhere outside the Western Hemisphere.
The fact that the person in question was a U.S. citizen says nothing
about when he arrived or from whence he came.

The attached photos were taken in September 1944, during the visit of Eliyahu Graber, my grandmother's brother (an American citizen), to Israel, then still Palestine, in two of the photos he is with his wife and in the third photo with his daughter Thelma. I have no doubt that Eliyahu and his wife are no longer alive, but it is possible that his daughter Thelma is still alive. I would appreciate it if someone recognizes/knows his daughter (or her family) and can add a way to contact her. Thanks, Yossi Godelnik-- Jgodelnik |
