SCHWIMMER from Munkacs #dna #hungary #ukraine
Moishe Miller
Dear Group,
I hope my note finds you all well. I recently completed a 6 week genealogical course on the topic of integrating documentary sources and DNA results into a proof of pedigree. It inspired me to review my family tree and write it up in a genealogical format (Sosa-Stradonitz with Ahnentafel numbering). I decided to focus on "just" the first six generations, one ancestral couple a month. This month's couple: My 3g-gp's, Jakob SCHWIMMER and Szure SCHWARC, were from Munkacs (present-day Mukacheve, Ukraine). Jakob, born about 1816, died in 1841 from a lung disease in Budapest (actually, just Pest). They had three known children, all born in the 1830s. Jakob's yDNA is in the J-M172 haplogroup. Szure's mtDNA haplogroup is pending the results of two tests takers living today. Jakob and Szure's parents are unknown. If you think you might descend from this couple, or, have done yDNA/atDNA testing with documented Schwimmer ancestry (or Schwartz ancestry from Munkacs), and would like to explore, please reach out to me privately. I am also interested in any scholarly works documenting what life was like in Munkacs in the immediate aftermath of the Napoleonic Wars, in the late 1810s and 1820s.
