Dear Genners,

It is my second attempt after my posting last year. I hope that it will ring a bell somewhere among his relatives who stayed back in the Russian Empire. It seems that I

exhausted my search in the USA  since there were no descendants in the USA so I have to turn back to the "old country". I believe that SEUBEL might be an Anglicized version of SOBEL or SEIBEL

bot it is just a wild guess. Below is my original post

Thanks

In recent years I am mapping the Jewish community in Cairo(you may google jacob rosen cairo index). I just bumped into the name David SEUBEL b.in Cairo in 1879 to Joseph SEUBEL

born in Russia and Adele COHEN born in Africa(!!!!!).He arrived to New York in 1899 (no record in EIDB). I have his naturalization papers, marriage certificate and death record, all from New York.

He was married to Sarah LINSKY b.1886 in Bialystok(no record in EIDB). David was a printer. It seems that the couple did not have children, His widow Sarah died in 1974 in Flushing(look at SSDI).

SEUBEL is not a Jewish surname and is probably a corruption of SEIBEL or SOBEL. It seems that he changed his surname at a certain stage. I do not find any trace of him in Cairo because there

is no access to archives. If some one here has a clue about him or knew Sarah SEUBEL I would be glad to hear about it.

Thanks

Hi Jacob,

David and Sarah SEUBEL are both at Mount Carmel cemetery, side by side.  It looks like Sarah never remarried. http://www.mountcarmelcemetery.com/search.asp

This is David and Sarah's 1911 Brooklyn marriage record:

Since David and Sarah seemed to be associated with Bialystok and Gomel, it is possible that one of them had roots in Bialystok, and the other in Gomel.

I suggest searching SEUBEL from both those towns.  Use a phonetic and/or soundex search on the surname.

Good luck in your search,
