My name is Hazel Boon and I am excited to be the new co-ordinator for JGS Toronto’s Special Interest Group for Poland. My paternal grandparents were born in Poland…one in Czyżew in Łomza Gubernia and the other in Łódź with most of his family from Bełchatów in Piotrków Gubernia. According to Wikipedia, “a special interest group (SIG) is a community within a larger organization with a shared interest in advancing a specific area of knowledge, learning or technology where members cooperate to affect or to produce solutions within their particular field, and may communicate, meet, and organize conferences.” My hope is that through this group we can guide each other through research issues we all face. In order to ensure that we can all benefit, we are limiting these Poland SIG meetings to JGS Toronto members only. My hope is that we can meet virtually once a month. Should you have any questions between meetings, please feel free to contact me directly at polandsig@.... If you have ideas you’d like to see explored in the future, please reach out to me. Most importantly, if you have a short research or brick-wall story to share with us, please let me know before the meeting. Don’t be shy. We are all here to help each other learn about our ancestors family and how they lived their lives. Your brick wall or research story may be what helps another attendee. I’m looking forward to our first meeting Thursday evening, 9 March at 7:30 p.m. Registration JGS Toronto members.
