Another finding among Bessarabia records - Service Form List #bessarabia #ukraine #translation #records

Yefim Kogan

Hello everybody,  I am back again, and have a number of new finding to discuss with you.

Here is the first - Формулярный Список о Службе  - Service Form List.  It was used in 19 century and beginning of 20th century in Russian Empire for mostly nobles, to list their positions in the government and social institutions, estates, holdings, awards, family, etc.  Such list for one person could be on 20 pages or more.  Why I am mentioning this to you?   We did not find Jews nobles in Bessarabia?!  But we did have a lot of Jews who served on different positions in government, other institutions.

You may know that we have a database specifically for this:  Jews in Public Life in Bessarabia. See description of it at https://www.jewishgen.org/databases/Romania/BessarabiaPublic.htm

While I was working on Revision list pages, I found a Service Form List for a Jew, Merchant of Second Gild Naum ben Alter KITROSER.  The reason that such document was written, Naum was a Manager of Soroki Mutual Credit Society (1905).   If look into our database Jews in Public Life in Bessarabia,  Naum KITROSER was a Member of Soroki City Counsel in 1916.

There is a full page of information about that person in the Service Form List. It appeared that he owned 166 acre of land in Zguritsa, Soroki uezd, etc.

I have added that family into our database "Revision list and other lists",  but I want to ask  the group if anyone with Russian would like to translate all the positions he held, everything....  and that we can add as an article on our Bessarabia website.

All the best,

Hello Researchers,

Does anyone read this initial message?
It seems that I am writing, but I do not have any idea even if this message was read, or what our members think about such records.  Maybe we do not need such records?!

It is really puzzling me what really people are looking for.

I planned to write about at least two more recent findings, but now I am not sure.
I believe that we need your feed back. Without it, it is hard to continue.  It is not that we need to see that you like or not, but we need more details, of WHY you like or you do not.
It is not just about this message.   It would be great to hear from you about our Monthly reports, other postings...  and please post it right here, not personally to me.  Ask questions, give new ideas, suggestions...

All the best,
Yefim Kogan

Hi Yefin,

On behalf of all of us, I spologize for just reading with interest, but not responding
to your sharing the new information that's been found and added.

These new sources of organized information are important to us,  For sure!

All information you find fits together. In time, more and more of it will become apparent,
as more and more information  is uncovered and discovered.

It's with sincere, heart-felt gratitude that we learn of each new set of information and its status and the progress in general.

The Bessarabian SIG is incredibly lucky to have as the coordinator, leading the group.

Thank you so much and thanks to Jewish Gen for providing the real and vitual home and structure
for the research and communication to and among all of us of what is being researched and accomplished.

Harvey Kabaker

Hi, Yefim,

My career was in newspapers, and I often wondered whether anyone was reading what I wrote or edited. Occasionally I would see angry responses to one thing or another, so I knew they were reading. Then there were the grammar police and nitpickers who insisted on correcting things. More proof that people are reading. Sometimes I made an excuse for a mistake saying, yes, I knew that was wrong, but I wanted to see if you were reading.

So maybe you should start writing things that make people angry? Or maybe not.

With best wishes, as always,

 Yefim,
Your work on Bessarabia Research and your frequent posts to this group are enormously beneficial for me. I have limited access to information about my family in Edinet and the urrounding area where my family lived. The access you provide is as good as gold. I cannot thank you enough. I read your reports with great interest.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Hi Yefim, As I've written you privately. I rely greatly on your knowledge and and your desire to help. It has opened up many doors to me over the years. It's laughable how much stock people place in the variations of given names. Often English-speakers will choose an Anglicized name that begins with the same letter (i.e. Moishe becoming Morris), but in many cases there's no rhyme or reason. When Chana becomes Marilyn, it's apparent that somebody just chose a name that they liked,
