There is an Ernst BICKART, born November 26, 1898 in Nuremberg, who was detained at the Camp de Gurs (Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France). Before Gurs, he was detained in the camp of Saint-Cyprien (Pyrénées-Orientales, France), being one of the 4,400 Jewish men "expelled" from Belgium on May 10, 1940.
At one time in 1941-1942 this Ernst Bickart lived in assigned residence in a small town near the city of Pau. He appeared on a list of people transferred from Gurs to the Rivesaltes camp at the beginning of September 1942. The majority of the people on this list were transferred from Rivesaltes to Drancy, then to Auschwitz. There is also an Ernst BICKART, born November 11, 1898, who lived in Germany in Saarelouis and took refuge with his family in Luxembourg in 1935, then in Paris in 1937. It is said that he was interned in France in 1939 This Ernst Bickart would have emigrated to Bolivia in May 1941, then to the USA. It is possible that there were two (or more) Ernst Bickarts. All the records noted below can be seen at www.familysearch.og There is an Ernest Siegfried BICKART (note his first name is spelled Ernest, not Ernst) and all his documents in The U.S. give his birthdate as 11 Nov 1897. Ernest Siegfried BICKART, age 43, arriving in NY in May 5, 1941. He is a leather merchant. His wife Annie HIRSCHMANN BICKART, age 31 arrived with Ernest, along with their 9 year old son Heinz BICKART. Their birthplaces are listed as: Ernest born Saarlouis, Germany Annie born Hanau, Germany Heinz born Saarlouis, Germany Their last permanent residence was Buenos Aires, Argentina. The nearest friend or relative left behind is their friend F. WEISS in Buenos Aires. They were going to Uncle Morris BICKART in Brooklyn, New York 2162-76th Street. Ernest is noted to have defective vision. In the database "United States Index to Alien Case Files" Ernst's birthdate is given as Nov. 11, 1897
The Social Security Death Index also gives his birthdate as November 11, 1897.
