Butrimonys #usa

Butrimonys and the connection between the town and Binghamton New York's leading Jewish families is the topic of  Rabbi Lance J. Sussman's recent article in The Report. The newsletter is published by the Jewish Federation of Greater Binghamton.

Chain migrations from ancestral towns in Europe to specific cities in the US is a rather neglected topic in local histories in the US. It's nice to see this topic explored.

Wow - Binghamton! Who knew?!
Thank you for this post, Karen. My great-grandmother, surname KABACHNIK, was from Butrimonys. She married a KAPLAN, and they emigrated in the 1890s and settled in Boston. Do you know of anyone with the KABACHNIK surname in Binghamton?

What a great article! My ancestors are from Butrimonys as well, and lived there for at least 200 years prior to emigrating to the US. I traced only one distant cousin's migration to Massachussetts, which I thought was odd. But now that I know there was a concentration of Butrimonys Jews in Boston, that makes sense. Thanks for posting!
