Conscription into Russian Army from Romania #russia #romania

I am trying to help a friend learn what happened to his Uncle, Yosef Yochanon Weiss(sz) who was conscripted into the Russian army during WW2.  He was born in Simlau, Transylvania in 1919.  The family never heard from him again.
Do records exist that might help learn what became of him?

The best source for Russian Military records available to look at online by regular people is the National Memory site of 
Yes, the searching and results are in Russian!  So you would need to figure our or guess how WEISS or VAJS is spelled in Russian.
