Hi All,

Would anyone be able to decipher the following on this WWI Draft card?  Document is attached.

1.  occupation
2.  hair color
3.  the notes for Question #29, regarding physical disabilities

Even a best guess is much appreciated!  Thanks in advance!

Occupation: Notions (sewing supplies), For himself. 923 O'Fallon St. St. Louis.
Hair color: Bald
Question 29: I can't make out the first word (maybe toupee?), but the second word is wig. The box around the words indicates it is connected to the question above.

Occupation is notions.  It looks like the haircolor says 'bold' but could possibly be 'black', with the final K going below the line.

Cannot read the last part.

Amy,

My interpretation:

Notions (works for himself.)
Bald
Brown Wig

You can check on his occupation by looking at census records, and old city directories.

It looks like he may show up in 1919 St. Louis directory, at same address as on draft card, as Samuel MITCHELL, listed under:
confectioners (retail.)
Name: Samuel Mitchell
Residence Year: 1919
Street Address: 923 O Fallon
Residence Place: St Louis, Missouri, USA
Publication Title: St Louis, Missouri, City Directory, 1919
There is a Samuel MITZEL in 1910 directory (different address), occuption:  tin.
Name: Samuel Mitzel
Residence Year: 1910
Street Address: 1314 N 9th
Residence Place: St Louis, Missouri, USA
Occupation: Tin
Publication Title: St Louis, Missouri, City Directory, 1910
