"My Uncles the Bigamists" will explore how Janette found out more than she ever anticipated about two of her grandfather’s brothers, immigrants to the United States from Suceava, Romania. This discussion will look at records in the U.S. and the startling revelations she discovered in them. One of the challenges in genealogical research is distinguishing between records for people with similar names and reconciling apparent conflicting information.

Dr. Janette Silverman began her genealogical journey more than 35 years ago as a hobby with her father. What started as a hobby quickly became an obsession as she immersed herself in Jewish history as a researcher, a student and a teacher. Janette served as a board member of the IAJGS and was the IAJGS conference chair in 2016. For several years she was the chair of the Phoenix JGS and the JewishGen Ukraine SIG Coordinator. In 2017 she was the JewishGen Volunteer of the Year.

Janette is a professional genealogist at AncestryProGenealogists, the division of Ancestry.com that does private client research. She heads up a team of researchers that specialize in Eastern European and Jewish research. Janette speaks at conferences worldwide, virtually and in-person.

Janette is the author of several articles that appeared in Avotyanu, The Galitzianer, APGQ, and The Tennessee Historical Quarterly. She is one of the authors of the "Genealogy at a Glance" series with Finding Eastern European Jewish Ancestors. She anticipates publication of her new book, Stories They Never Told Me in 2023 by National Genealogical Society.
