Almost every European Jewish community, whether large or small, possessed a special book in which community members were memorialized, both in writing and in synagogue liturgy.

These "Memorbucher" are full of historical treasures, especially when we explore who was included in the volumes, who was omitted, how men and women were remembered, and what these manuscripts reveal about charity, gender, and community in early modern Europe.
