Can anyone please tell me if there is a date on this gravestone? if so what is it?
I believe it is that of my great grandfather. Alan Cohen |

Looks more like 11 Sivan (misspelled ) 5684. June 12-13, 1924. Maybe 5664 but doubtful.

Thanks to all who translated the date. From my other family research (dates of birth of grandchildren presumably named after him) and style of gravestone I think 1904 more likely. than 1924, although one son's UK marriage certificate in 1910 said his father was still alive.

There is no question that it is 5664. The name is Reuven Dovid the son of Tzvi. The question is the exact date. The month is Sivan but misspelled. but it has 2 days. It says 11 Sivan 19 5664. So it is either 11 Sivan or 19 Sivan. That would translate to either Wednesday may 25th or thursday June 2nd.
If you have other corroborating evidence, that would narrow down the exact date. Hope this helps Yeshaye Goldberg |

No it does not say Sivan 19.
That is not a way of writing Hebrew dates. Ever. What Mr. Goldberg is interepring as 19 is the Hebrew character Shin, it's an abbreviation for the (Hebrew) word year. -- Odeda Zlotnick Jerusalem, Israel. |
