Helen M Oppenheimer: Arrival in N.Y :meeting Uncle L. Traemkel ? #usa

Richard Dassow

Arrived June 6, 1907. Passenger list says meeting Uncle L. Traemkel.  Just L. for first  name. Can't find any record of Traemkel. What could have been a common name for letter L.?
Helen Oppenheimer is line 11
Ferdinand Weyland. Line 18

They met on the boat and married a few years later.

Helen was coming to U.S. get married to a Jewish Lawyer in N.Y. but met Ferdinand Weyland and married a few years later.

That's history. I'm trying to find out more about Helen and her background.
Doing this research for  my wife Naomi Helen Dassow. Helen M. Oppenheimer is my wife's grandmother. Helen died 2 years before my wife was born.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Would like to write a short story on the life of Helen Oppenheimer Weyland. Just getting started.

Hi Richard,

What a wonderful endeavor! I took a look at the manifest (see below, for the group's reference) and I think that the last name might actually be Fraenkel.  Also, it looks like the street name could have been Calumet.  There is a Calumet Heights section in Chicago.

There is a family tree on Ancestry that includes Helen and Ferdinand, with more information.  Here is the link: https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/24452130/person/1521668351/facts

Thanks. I have that info on our family tree.  Last name: Fraenkel.  First name just L. ? That is NEW info.
Any idea what the L as a first name could be?
Thanks

Hi Richard,

I did a little more digging and there is a Lee Frankel from Germany living on Calumet Ave, Chicago on the 1900 Census.  He was the son of Sigmund and Helen Frankel.
