YOAV ARAN
Shalom friends,

As you can see, the attached gravestone says that the family mentioned are from a place called "Jadovno". The only thing I have found with regards to this place, is the concentration camp in Croatia. However, I am yet to find a town, place or city that is called by this name. If anyone has any idea where it might be or where I can look, it would be greatly appreciated if you could let me know.

Best wishes,
Yoav Aran

it can be Edvabne, near Byalostok in Poland. the bad remembered town in Jewish history.
May it?

sorry Yoav - you read it incorrectly
The first letter is a MEM
It actually says in Hebrew  FROM DUBNO

sorry David,
I cannot agree with you/
the first "mem", you are right, means "from" (the full word is MiN, mn), but in no text you can find it  with "yod", only M and then the name of the place...
So it says, as I had replied,"from Edwabne or Jedwabne."

Many thanks Josef and David.

You could both be right. The oral history is that she was from a town near Belgrade. Going by that, Dubno would make more sense as it is closer to Belgrade, but still not ‘near’.

I had a look at the Jedwabne records and these Kosatskys do not show up. There is an Abraham Yitzchak, but he doesn’t seem to be the same one as listed on the grave.

Best wishes,
