Looking for Edvando, Lithuania #lithuania

schellt@...

I am looking for where my grandmother lived in Lithuania.  She came to the United States in 1914, and on the ship manifest she lists her place of birth as Edvadno.  On later documents she says she is from Litthuania.   The only reference I can find of Edvadno is of a battle taking place between the Bobr and Edvadno in February 1915.   Would like to find out the present-day location of Edvadno.

Hi Tracy,

I agree with Giannis that the town could be Jedwabne.
In Yiddish it was called Yedvabna.

You can see the similarity between Edvadno / Yedvabna -- it
seems a likely candidate.

In 1909 there is a Benjamin MILLER from Jedwabny who arrives in NY.  He left behind his mother Chane MILLER, and is bound for his brother Jakob MILLER in NYC.  Maybe these MILLERS are connected to yours, but of course MILLER is an extremely common name.

There's also a Zalman Milevski from Jedwabne who on his U.S. nat papers changed his surname to MILLER.

Possible name changes are always something to think about when researching.

Good luck in your search,
