Looking for Lukowitzi Belarus? #belarus
Hi,
I am looking for Lukowitzi Russia (closest spelling I could find and town associated is today, Lyakhavichy, Belarus - Jewishgen - https://www.jewishgen.org/Communities/community.php?usbgn=-1945696 - in the Minsk gubernia and seems far from Gomel - 390 km). BUT I suspect the actual is closer to Gomel, Belarus in the Mogilev gubernia? Or NOT Anyone have an idea? Looking for Teleshevsky (and associated spellings and variations!) -- Regards, Arthur Sissman Jewish Genealogy SIG of Collier/Lee Co FL genresearch13 @yahoo.com (copy and close space in email format to send email, if necessary) Join our FB page at Jewish Genealogy SIG: https://www.facebook.com/groups/hellojewishgen Genealogy Wise page: http://www.genealogywise.com/profile/ArthurSissman

Arthur,
There are several locations with spellings that are similar to the one you supply. Here is a results page with most of them: https://www.jewishgen.org/databases/gazetteer/gazetteer.php?Town=Lyakhavichy&Country=AU|BO|HR|EZ|EN|HU|LG|LH|MD|PL|RO|RS|LO|SI|UP&Miles=MILES&cl=capital&stype=D&accnt=Y&HttpVerb=Post If you are sure that your community was not in, or near the Austrian Empire, as some of these are, is there any other evidence that points to Gomel or other communities nearby. There is a place in the Poltava gubernia that is spelled like this. Hap Ponedel Eugene, OR hapsky@... http://easteurotopo.org/

Thanks for all the replys. Perhaps Lukovets, Ukraine makes the most sense for my research. I appreciate you work on my behalf.
Some "sthetl" suburb of Gomel, or even N Ukraine within 100 km of Gomel would be even better! But this is genealogy we are discussing and people traveled a lot farther than we think/thought (at least for me). Please let me know when I can return the favor! -- Regards, Arthur Sissman Jewish Genealogy SIG of Collier/Lee Co FL genresearch13 @yahoo.com (copy and close space in email format to send email, if necessary) Join our FB page at Jewish Genealogy SIG: https://www.facebook.com/groups/hellojewishgen Genealogy Wise page: http://www.genealogywise.com/profile/ArthurSissman
