Isabel, thanks for response. I am familiar with Intriligator. Knew someone with that name. It made me wonder if it was a regional thing. Do you know the geographic origin of Intriligator?

Isabel, thanks for the idea.  Some relatives sitting around worked on that idea too.  Intrilingator  seems to be one of those occupational names.  We discussed that maybe when the ancestor came when they asked his name, he misunderstood and thought they were asking his occupation.  However, Eligator doesn't translate as anything in Polish.  I knew an Intriligator when I lived in Iowa and always wondered if the names were somehow related.
   Again the name is Eligator with no "n".  thanks again and be well.

If I remembe correctly, they were from Lithuania, most likely Vilna
