Need help with finding a BLUMBERG/MICHELSON family. #latvia #usa #lithuania #names
Hi all. I was wondering if I could get some help on this. In my genealogical research, I found that my 3rd great grandparents were Meyer Blumberg (b. abt 1850) and Liba Devorah Michelson (b. abt 1850), but I don't know where they came from. When I was doing research, I found a website called blumberg.ca and on the website under "The Genealogical Quest" website, it mentions that this family came from Grobina, Latvia, and that a Michelsohn family came from here. So, I have a strong incentive to believe that they came from there. The website is ran by a Henry Blumberg, and when I tried to send a message to the email listed on the website, it didn't go through, and the last post on the website was in 2008. However, the website does mention that this Henry Blumberg was once the President of the LatviaSIG group, so I was wondering if I'd be able to get some help here. I'll copy and paste the email I tried to send to him:
My name is Samantha, I’m 19 years old and I’m from Philadelphia, PA, USA. I’m reaching out because I found your genealogical website and I think we may possibly be cousins. Based on genealogical research I have done so far, I’ve found that my 3rd great-grandfather was Meyer Blumberg, born around 1850 somewhere in the Russian Empire, and my 3rd
great grandmother is Libe Devorah “Dora” Michelson, also born around 1850 also in the Russian Empire. The two immigrated to New York City sometime before 1880, and had several children, one of which was my 2nd great grandmother Annie Katz.
According to death records I was able to find, Meyer’s parents were named Raphael Blumberg and Goldie Cohen, and Dora’s parents were named Max and Annie. I was able to find her tombstone and it suggests that Max’s Hebrew name was Jankiel.
You mentioned something on your website about a Michelsohn family also living in the Grobina area with the Blumbergs, which makes me think that we are related.
Let me know what you think!
