Please help me read this letter in Hebrew #romania #israel #translation

Leah Herz

I have posted a letter on ViewMate that was sent from Zefat, Israel in 1888 to the Rabbis in Romania

To raise funds for their community. The letter has the signature of my g-g-g-grandfather. Also please

Help me read the names of the people who signed this letter.

Thank you so much for your help,

Leah Herz

I've made a feeble attempt to do the names (I've skipped the prefix and some of the swirling suffixes, which I do not understand):

Right-hand column
Avraham Haim Bersha (probably Borsa, see https://yi.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D7%91%D7%90%D7%A8%D7%A9%D7%90)
2) Also a Bersha, but I cannot make out the forename properly.
I cannot transliterate that to something that makes sense.
Yossef BRZ Yisraeler.  I think BRZ could be Son of Tziyon, but someone else will probably have a better idea.
Yaakov Pinhas Stein, from illegible.
Haim Baharabi Dindarel
Nudra Moshe, from illegible.

Left-hand column
8) Too swirly, cannot read
Moshe HHR R Dindil.  Not sure about the middle initiials.
Yossef Maharan Brand, from unsure.
Moshe Avraham HaCohen from Dragmoresht (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragomire%C8%99ti,_Maramure%C8%99)
Mordekhai Segal from Soloshes(?)
13) Cannot make sense of it.

Please use the above with caution. I'm a Hebrew speaker, and am lacking in knowledge about a lot of the prefixes used and certain yiddish spellings of place names that may have been written.

Dear Alan,

At the bottom of your note you are researching Poilskyi, Podolia.

My grandmother was Pudalow sometimes in family Podiloff and from Ukraine.

Because of the language and limitation of available details,I know very little.

Could you be of any help!

Regards

Dubin, David M. MD

Signatures all begin Neum or Uneum, meaning “the words of”
Third name Dov Wieder of Rosa—-
Fifth name is Steinmetz, not stein, probably “from marmoresch” (see the stamped seal)
Sixth name. Son of rabbi zindel
8 the insignificant Chaim Yitzchak —-
9- Moshe son of the rabbi zindel whose memory will live into the next world (zindel must have been a renowned holy man)
10- agree that 7 says “from Welchowitz” and the same place in this signature.

13 either Heschel —- Tessler or the insignificant Shlomo? Tesler

Name 5 is Jakob Menachem Steinmetz, probably the person you’re looking for.

Praise God    Here (ie, Safed).  important notice

Among the tribes of Israel we send this Faithful notice

And its sound should pass among every corner and encampment

And within the borders of our Merciful brethren the people of our place Mermoresch
And the outlying places of Munkacz, Khust And all the places of the people of our state...

Much much more. The rabbis in Safed are asking for charity from that area in Hungary from which they came.
