Thanks to the terrific work of Phyllis Berenson and her team, I think I may have found my great-grandfather's family!
My grandmother's father was Susman LEVENSHTEIN (Meshulem Zusman ben Dovid Eliahu ha-levi), born in Bolshiye Nezgortsi near Berdichev in 1855. His children were: Mark, Annie, Sophy and William.
Image ДАКО/280/2/1200 of Ukraine Revision Lists, Group 2 is the 1858 list of a family of 36(!) in Bolshikh, Berdichev Uyezd, headed by Duvid (43) & Malka (43) LEVENSHTEYN. They have children: Liba (12), Danil (7), Bentsion-Zus (4) & Khana (4),
Duvid also has siblings living with him: one brother Volf (29), another Moshko (34) with a son Meshulim (13).
My question is this: could the town of Bolshikh be Bolshiye Nezgortsi? Could Bentsion-Zus be my great-grandfather Susman, later taking the additional forename Meshulem in honour of his cousin? Could he have named his daughter Annie after his (twin?) sister Khana and his son William after his uncle Volf? If I'm right, also living with Duvid is his mother Leya (57) daughter of Yel - taking my family back to my possible 4x-great-grandfather who would have been born around 1780.
Please tell me what you think - and thanks again to Phyllis and her team!
