Pre-Holocaust Family and Individuals' Photographs #holocaust #photographs
P. S. Wyant
I have a reference to a website: http://vor-den-holocaust.de/ that has many pre-Shoah family photos, etc.
It used to be an open site, freely available. I haven’t used it for some time and now there’s a log-in and password required. There is, however, no indication of whom to contact to gain access.
Is anyone familiar with the owner/owners of this site and how one might contact them to gain access?
Thanks for any assistance!

Hello.
To bring folks up to date ... I have found that this information is still available. The site ( http://vor-dem-holocaust.de/ ) is owned and maintained by the Fritz Bauer Institut in Frankfurt a/M. However, due to "legal reasons" (I suspect to do with Datenschutz), information on the site is only available to be searched from inside the Institut. Peter Wyant Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada

So, it is still available but only to the members of the Institut, therefore not available to anybody else?

Dominique, I think a better way to put it would be that one can only access the database from an internal Fritz Bauer Institut system. I intend to do that later this year when I next go to Frankfurt a/M.

Yes, as Peter says, but explained in a way that we Brit library-users are familiar with, the collection seems to be like a reference library cp. a lending library], accessible to those who physically visit the Fritz Bauer Institut, which is located on the university campus. A relative [based in Frankfurt] has kindly given me this link to enable people to search for publications:
and most of their homepage is available in English. -- Michael A Hutchinson Gloucestershire, UK michaelhutchinson1945@...
