searching for a town - Kruydon on the Dnuevtr River #ukraine

Deborah Friedman

Hi,

I was told by long deceased relatives that my gg grandmother was born in 1840 in a town called Kruydon on the Dnuevtr River.
Her name was Hinda Podgaitz. She eventually married my gg grandfather Ephraim Friedman and lived in Kopaigorod, near Bar in the Ukraine.
So maybe this town was near there? I can't find the town or the River...can anyone help me?
Thank you
Deborah Friedman

I think the river is nor Dnuevtr but Dniester or Dnieper, the two main rivers in Ukraine.

Deborah,

This page has info (including coordinates) for Kopaihorod:
https://www.jewishgen.org/Communities/community.php?usbgn=-1042774

At this page (The JewishGen Gazetteer)
https://www.jewishgen.org/Communities/LocTown.asp\
you can do a soundex search for Kruydon.
You can then compare the coordinates of towns that sound like Kruydon to the coordinates of Kopaihorod to see if one of them is reasonably close by.  But, consider the possibility that the family moved farther away from Kopaihorod than you suspect.

Good luck in your search,
