The London Gazette #unitedkingdom
Richard Stower
I have found a possible cousin-in-law, Olga (Haves) Suchostawer, listed in the August 23, 1949 issue of The London Gazette. The page appears to list the names and occupations of refugees and/or displaced persons living in post-war London. Her husband, Sigmund, was murdered in the Holocaust.
Is there someone who knows the purpose of The London Gazette? Thank you. Richard Stower

The London Gazette is the official journal for the publication of official government announcements, such as honours awarded by the monarch, medals for gallantry and for naturalisation certificates (i.e. the award of British citizenship)

The London Gazette acts as a sort of official notice board of the
British Civil Service and the legal profession here. It publishes reports of Court cases, naturalisations, diplomatic appointments, royal honours lists, bankruptcies, official notices of the fighting forces, lists of ranking officers, but the contents have varied over time. Its archive is now freely available to search online. For its history, which goes back to the 18th century or earlier, I suggest you search Wikipedia. The Gazettes are official journals of record. As a publication, The Gazette consists largely of statutory notices. This means that there is some legal requirement for the notice placer to advertise an event or proposal in The Gazette. [snip] David Lewin London

The London Gazette is an official publication of HM Government. Its purpose is to carry announcements and official notices such as Parliamentary Acts, Wills, Honours etc.
Interesting to read from time to time. It is published every weekday.

Basically the information given within this journal mainly concerns the public time-table of the royal family, who will be met, fed or be at any such event: it also lists the honours list on the Sovreign's birthday
(this runs to several pages or at New Year such as local Postman or the Vice Chancellor of a rival university If you are a famous explorer or were to get a medal from Liz this would inform all your friends (or enemies), If you have ben promoted or given
a gong (Active Service Medal) Don't all countries have such a publicaton???
