Town in Russia - Markus Family #translation

Hi,
 
I'm having trouble transcribing the town in Russia Hannah Rachel (my grear-grandmother) and Lena Markus were from.
 
It reads Wakena, or Ulekena on Lena's, and Veana on Rachel's (not helped by they wrote it in the wrong place and then overwrote). These are from the 1921 UK Census.
 
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps it is Wekcna, which seems to be Vieksniai, in Lithuania, not far from Telsiai (which could be "Telsi" in Morris' entry, above), according to the Jewish Communities Database.

Thanks Marion, that's very helpful. I couldn't find any Markus entries in Viekšniai on JewishGen but that may just be there's not always records existing or digitized.

I also have two women in my family tree who married men with the last name of Marcus (or Markus) from Vieksniai, in US records written as Vexna or Wexner. One of the men was named Jacob Marcus, and the other Harris Marcus (probably originally Hirsh or Aaron). These couples settled in Boston, Massachusetts in the early 1890s. I also have not found any records of these men or their wives on Jewishgen. From Jacob's gravestone, his father's name looks possibly to be Yechiel Zvi.

Lena and Hannah Rachel father was called Harris. I have seen the Boston Harris Marcus and couldn't determine if they are the same family.

When Hannah married in 1896 she listed Harris as a builder on her marriage certificate. Lena listed him as a joiner in 1890 on her marriage certificate.
