Hi,

I have attached two birth records that I found using JewishGen Unified Search. The person's name was Hersch Yosel (Metzger) born in Sniatyn on 25 March 1883. I don't think either record is correct from the information that I can read. I just need confirmation. Thanks!

Hi Warren:

The two birth records you attached are images linked from index entries provided by Jewish Records Indexing - Poland. Although you started your search on JewishGen, JRI-Poland allows JewishGen to search the JRI-Poland database and show results from JRI-Poland.

JRI-Poland has indexed records from Sniatyn. Unfortunately the Jewish vital records from WWI and before were destroyed during the War. There were a small number of re-created births that were recorded for legal and administrative purposes after WWI, but no Metzger entries in the 1880s.

So the two Hersch Metger's you found were not born in Sniatyn, but still could be relatives of yours.

Best regards,
Mark Halpern
