Two death Dates On Lithuanian Data Base #general #lithuania

William Levine

Hi, the two entries below from the Lithuanian data base below, appear to be for the same person, as ever data item is the same except for the death date which iis 20 years apart.  Efroim Levin, appears to be my great-great-grandfather so it would be great if I could discern which date is legitimate.  Any insight thanks alot

I do not see why they have to be the same person but it's hard to make final conclusion based on a brief summary of another person.
Examination of the images of the actual documents would give more information.
Do you know any personal details of your relative?

In one branch of my family, two names (Itzik and Yehuda) alternated through several generation - so I have 3 of each identical name just in that direct line, plus others from uncles and nephews.    It could be that one of yours is a father or uncle, the other is a son or nephew or cousin

Although these two records have the same name and patronymic, and nearly the same year of birth calculated from the death date and age (1831 and 1828), I don't see how they could be the same person. These are Vilna death records, which were recorded as they occurred (ie as they were reported) which I think rules out any exotic hypothesis such as an erroneous record that was subsequently corrected, or a dramatic misreading of the date. Unfortunately, there is no other information in the Vilna death records, such as an address, so unless you have separate evidence that your gggf was alive after 1895, or lived past his mid-60s, you may not be able to figure out which record is his.

Thx you so much for your help. It turned out  that needed to look for Efraim not  Efroim so  my question was  unnecessary. But your point is valuable in understanding that same name combos don;t always indicate the same indivudual
