Ukrainian State Archives websites in Kiev offline again #ukraine #records

This is just a note to let people know that the main websites of the Ukrainian State Archives in Kyiv are offline again, probably because of the renewed missile strikes against Kyiv in the past week and subsequent power supply problems.  The websites of the Archival Service of Ukraine (the main website for all of the State Archives branches) is down, as is the website of the Central State Historical Archive of Ukraine in Kyiv (CDIAK or TSDIAK).  They have been down since at least yesterday (Monday, 7 November).  If past experience is any guide, these websites will probably be back up when shelling of Kyiv and the area stops.  I have not checked to see whether websites for the other branches in other cities are up or down.  For now, it means for genealogists that about 20% of the  Kiev city Jewish birth, marriage and death records are currently unavailable online, since copies are not housed on the Alex Krakovsky Wikipedia site on Ukrainian Jewish records.  The links to about 20% of the records on that site are to files on the CDIAK site, rather than to copies on the Wikipedia site itself.  The Ukraine Research Division has actually downloaded copies of the individual record JPG files that make up these digital images, but has not yet produced unified files for a complete year that could be uploaded to the Alex Krakovsky site (as far as I know).  I believe that is their eventual goal, but for now, researchers will have to make due with the records that Alex digitized directly and uploaded to his site.  That's about 75% to 80% of the total available files for Kiev city, with the rest having been available only on the CDIAK site itself.

Thanks Ted!

I just checked all the (Ukrainian) sites listed on the page https://uk.wikisource.org/wiki/Архіви.

The main gov.ua domain (which hosts many regional archives) was down when I started checking, but after my coffee it came be back up, hurrah!

Unfortunately the Kirovohrad (DAKRO), Lugansk (DALUO), and Nikolayev (DAMO) archives are still down, but the rest all seem to be working again, including CDIAK/TsDIAK.

The Ukraine RD was in fact in the midst of preserving Jewish files found on the Kharkiv DAHO site that were accessible yesterday afternoon my time, & were then offline until just about 2 minutes ago. I hope that the volunteer will be able to get to those files quickly, I have let him know that it's back up as of 11:35 AM GMT+1.

regards,
Juliana Berland (France)
