UPDATE Surprising DNA results from Ancestry

Zora Moore

I received so many well wishes and great advice when I posted about my Surprising DNA results and finding out I was 51% Jewish.   I have since been able to confirm my birthfather,  Its unfortunate that he passed away in 2003.  I do have siblings that I hope to connect with.  I did talk to a Nephew and Niece, I think their parents need a minute to process the discovery of having a sister.  All in due time I am sure.  I went into this knowing that I was embarking on an adventure, and I am sure there are many more to come as we navigate newfound family members.   So I'm sure there will be more updates to come, but I wanted to thank everyone here for being open and helpful.   Stay Golden!

So glad that you have been able to open a new chapter. My husbands parents divorced right after he was born, and his mother's side did not want the father or his family to have contact with Joe. Joe lived all of his life thinking and accepting that his father didn't want him. (Joe is now 68). Then I started doing genealogy about 7 years ago, and with a friend's help, found Joe's father's family. His father had passed away, but Joe had an aunt and uncle, whom we have seen many times. We were also invited to a cousin's wedding last year. Then we found, through DNA, that Joe had a half-brother and half-sister that neither his aunt or uncle knew about. The half-brother is less accepting, but we are planning a trip to to visit the half-sister this year! This is a long way to say, you never know. 😊. All the best to you!!

Congratulations on finding your birth father so quickly and making positive contact with the nephew and niece.  I am interested in the rest of your story as it unfolds.

Thanks so much for posting this heartening update.  Did you discover if there was a factual basis for the alleged Mexican connection?

Zora, without revealing any secrets, could you outline how you found the family?

My initial Ancestry match matched me to a 1st Cousin... I reached out to them and come up with a hypothesis of who could be my BF.   Then a second 1st Cousin contacted me who got their results, So in comparing the two results we were able to conclude who my BF was.  Went a lot faster than I ever expected.  But the 50 year old mystery has been solved.  DNA is #Facts!

Thanks for sharing.   So far I have found I have 4 half Siblings on my BF side.   They are processing it all and have not been wanting to connect at this point, which is understandable.   I think time will fix all.

Thank you!  I am open to this new adventure.

Jane,

No one remembers where the Mexican story/connection came from,  family gossip is the best I came up with.   Well, DNA has fixed that.   Now to figure out what is 51% Jewish  actually means.
