What was a Privatist or Privatiste ? #austria-czech #romania
Jeremy Pacht
According to the 1906-1914 rosters of the Gymnasium in Sereth (former Bukovina, Austro-Hungarian empire), each class contained a relatively small number of children listed under the category "Privatisten".
Can anyone tell me what "Privatisten" signifies? -- Jeremy Pacht Wecker, Luxembourg Jeremy.pacht@... |

It's kinda difficult for me to explain this (personally) via text, but I did locate the following publication (that's displayed in text format) and if you search for Privatisten, you should be able to locate 2 entries that will (hopefully) provide you with some clarity regarding its meaning. https://archive.org/stream/americanjournal12barngoog/americanjournal12barngoog_djvu.txt -- ~Brian D. Thanks for this Brian. So if I understand correctly, Privatisten were privately educated students who were registered to take exams in the state Gymnasia.
I'm not sure I have this right, so I'd be much obliged if anyone else could confirm or clarify. -- Jeremy Pacht Wecker, Luxembourg Jeremy.pacht@... |

In VERY short... I believe that it's more like those who aren't considered permanent residents (yet) in the specific location and the overage of students have to use the gymnasium for classes. There's more to it, but I think I simplified it okay (hopefully). -- ~Brian D.
