Who Am I: A TAFLOWICZ or A MINC/MINTZ? #poland
My maternal gg-grandmother was Estera REICHMAN/RAJCHMAN, married to Morris/Mosek/Mosiek REICHMAN.
Her daughter, my maternal g-grandmother, was Ryfka/Rebecca REICHMAN/REJCHMAN (married to Zalman/Solomon LEVINE (aka MICHALOWICZ).
JRI-Poland mentions the following Ryfka/Rebecca REJCHMAN birth information:
Nov. 4,1845. Tomaszow Mazowiecki.
LDS # 747938/596, Akt #71
Mosiek Rejchman, 22, cloth making apprentice, Tomaszow resident &
Ester, nee MINC/MINTZ, 20. (original document was found on metryki.genbaza.pl.)
TAFLOWICZ (aka FOLKOWICZ--original doc. was mis-read by JRI-Poland as Folkowicz)
1844 Tomaszow Maz. marriage document: Ester FOLKOWICZ (document actually lists her as Taflowicz) & Mosick/Mosiek
Marriage: 27 May 1844
LDS# 747938, Akt # 8
Bride: Estera TAFLOWICZ, 21.
Parents: Haim & Zelda TAFLOWICZ.
Groom: Mosiek RAJCHMAN/REYCHMAN/REICHMAN, 22, journeyman weaver.
Parents: Haim & Cyrla REICHMAN
The first names of the Esteras' mothers have a similar sound & both fathers have the identical first name.
Both sets of Esteras & Mosicks are of similar age.
The both Mosieks have the same occupation.
The resident towns are identical.
In my family, one of Ryfka/Rebecca REICHMAN'S granddaughters was named Zelda. Was she named for Zelda TAFLOWICZ?
I have a gold wedding band that I believe belonged to one of the Esthers. A jeweler said the engraved initials were EF & the year was 1859. He needed to use a loop to read the information--could the last initial have been a "T" for Taflowicz? Also, why 1859 when, according to the above record, the marriage was in 1844? (I know that some couples had their "legal"state marriages many years after their religious ones.)
So, which Estera is my gg-grandmother: Estera TAFLOWICZ or Estera MINC/MINTZ, or are they one & the same person?

Hi Marilyn. Thanks for the interesting question. Those Tomaszow Mazowiecki records were document from the index page by JRI-Poland in 1997 and now after 25 years, I am finally putting my efforts into doing extending extracts. The 1844 Marriage record that you mentions was indexed by the 19th Century indexer as FOLKOWICZ but as you say the record states TAFLOWICZ.
I suggest that you also look at the Marriage record of Estera's brother Eyzyk TAFLOWICZ in 1843 akta # 5 found at https://metryki.genbaza.pl/genbaza,detail,289965,35 In this record it states that Eyzyk is the son of Hajm and Zelda TAFLOWICZ. Then look at the bottom of the pages where the signagures are located. Eyzyk's signature in Hebrew is Eyzk TAFLOWICZ, Hajm signature in Hebrew is Hajm MINTZ! On the Polish signature side it shows Eyzyk TAFLOWICZ under that is Haym the ditto symbol under the words TAFLOWICZ and then it shows MINTZ. Then under Haym name is Zelda's name with the ditto symbol under both TAFLOWICZ and MINTZ
So to answer your question, yes Estera TAFLOWICZ and Estera MINTZ as the same person.
JRI-Poland Tomaszow Mazowiecki Town leader.

A responder, upon looking at the marriage document of Estera TAFLOWICZ-MINC/MINTZ REICHMAN's brother, Eyzyk TAFLOWICZ, noted that the parents signed his document using both names. So, is it possible that Estera's father was not "legally" married to her mother, but rather only had a religious marriage &, thus, was known by/used both his mother's maiden name & his father's"?
