I have been a long time subscriber but this is my 1st post. I don't really know what I am doing.

Why would 2 neighboring states issue death certificates for the same individual?
Connecticut vs Massachusetts
1. Same name including middle initial.
2. Same birth date.
3. Same death date.
4. Different place of death.  Both seem incorrect.

He probably died in one of the states but lived and was buried in the other.

Most commonly, the reason for two death certificates is if the individual died in one state and was to be buried in another.  Not all states require a second DC for a burial permit but some do.

If both death locations seem incorrect, it is possible that one was the place where he was visiting when he died and the other the location of a hospital to which he was transported.

It would be helpful to also know what causes of death were and were they similar, when DC were issued as procedures change over time, what DC say about place of death, place of burial, etc. does one say remains were removed from jurisdiction, etc
